Tio Omitli
Follow the story of Javier, a concerned citizen of Mexico City who secretly summons his deceased Tio Omitli (Uncle Bones) on the Day of the Dead.
Play as Omitli and team up with Javier to make a social impact on the rapidly changing Mexico City, formerly known as Tenochtitlan.
Explore the town, chat with NPCs, and make a difference. Your choices matter. When you finally return to your eternal resting place, a spiritual guide will reveal the results of your impact on the townspeople.
There are countless possible Sub-Epilogue combinations and 7 Primary-Epilogue outcomes. But there is only 1 way to "win" in the end.
Gameplay
For key gameplay hints, we recommend reading Tio Omitli Game Hints, a quick read detailing hints without spoilers.
While the game is all about bringing people together, you can easily make someone’s life more difficult by accident. The social impact you have on our game’s characters is moderately complex. Unlock secret endings that will only happen if you do not win the game. Some characters will inevitably die young despite your best efforts. In at least two triggered endgame scenarios, a random result may occur.
We designed the game to demonstrate how complex social engagements are, especially when ideas like racism and social inequality are present. So don’t be discouraged if you can’t truly beat the game.
The Developers
Hi! I'm Allen, the lead dev and this project was close to our hearts in many ways. This is my little sister Susie's first game! She did Narrative Design. It's extra special for us to collaborate because before I was an adult, I didn't even know Susie existed. I was adopted at birth and often wonder what our lives would have been like if we had grown up together.
It's hard to explain, but I think making games like Tio Omitli helps me to grow spiritually. I want to make games people enjoy, but it's equally important for me to explore my disconnected ancestry.
Please think of us when you speak with the characters in the story. Ask yourself how one choice might affect entire generations, making or breaking social, racial, communal, and familial bonds.
Enough with the serious stuff for now... Try the game and comment on your results.
What surprised you? Who was your favorite character? What do you wish you could have done differently?
When you're finished here, try the Over Many Waters prototype too.
How To Play
Use WASD or Arrow Keys to move.
Press "E" to interact with NPCs.
Press "Enter" or "Spacebar" to make selections.
Gamepad controls are an option, but you will have to mouse-click on the title screen.

Beautifully designed game with an important message at its core. Takes a lot of talent to create every aspect of this. Well done!
Thank you, Jay! I'm happy you enjoyed playing Tio Omitli :)
Really amazing to get to know your culture more through this game! There's lots of subtleties it conveys within an engaging narrative frame!
Thank you! If you like this one, follow Over Many Waters too. The same vibe of narrative will continue with branching dialogue and impactful choices.
